Research Shows Benefits Over Bags and Bunkers
Many dairy producers who own both a Harvestore and bags or bunkers store their best forage in their Harvestore structures. Why? Research proves that Harvestores provide the best storage system to preserve forage quality.
A U.S. Dairy Forage Research Center study shows that producers using an oxygen-limiting structure, like a Harvestore, can preserve forage nutrient value better than dairies using storage bags and concrete bunkers.
As you can see below, cows fed alfalfa haylage stored in a Harvestore produced almost six pounds more 3.5% fat-corrected milk per day than cows fed alfalfa from a plastic storage bag or concrete bunker.
And in the next chart, alfalfa haylage stored in a Harvestore had less spoilage and gaseous loss than alfalfa stored over the same period in a plastic bag silo or a covered concrete storage bunker. We all know that forage quality influences milk production, reproductive efficiency and profits. Store your best forage and grains in a Harvestore, feed them to your high producing cows and see the results for yourself.
